Seasonal license plates – when the vehicle is stationary in winter

In winter, many citizens put their classic car, motorcycle or convertible in the garage and do not use the vehicles. Here it can be worthwhile to take out a seasonal license plate. However, vehicle owners should also take into account the costs of storing the car. The car may not be parked on the street as a rule.

In the last days the Vorweihnachtszeit showed up from its inhospitable side. Rain, ground frost and cold wind turned many streets into ice rinks. In the coming week it is supposed to get even colder. The weather service has announced snow and freezing temperatures.

In this weather, many vehicles also stay in the garage when not in use. This is especially true for two-wheelers, convertibles, motor homes or classic cars. No wonder: not only could the vehicles be damaged if they are affected by the weather. If in doubt, it also means a safety risk to use it currently. Here it can be worthwhile to decide for a seasonal license plate and thus to insure the beloved car or motorcycle.

Advantages and disadvantages of seasonal license plates

Such a seasonal license plate has several advantages. So usually the insurance premium goes down when the vehicle is not being used. The period for which the vehicle is to be left in the garage is freely selectable. The providers allow a resting of two to eleven months. Seasonal license plates are usually issued from the beginning of March to the end of October. The annual trip to the registration office is also not necessary if you use such a license plate. The period of validity is marked by two additional numbers on the right side of the license plate.

Also positive: for the seasonal license plate can also be included in the rest phase a hull module. Here it is advisable to ask the insurer whether a rest insurance is included and which achievements it contains. Thus, the motorcycle or the expensive classic car is also protected against theft.

But where there are advantages, there are of course also disadvantages lurking. So in the rest period the vehicle may not actually be used. Otherwise it will be considered as if you were on the road without insurance cover.

Another disadvantage: during the rest period, the vehicle may not simply be parked on the side of the road or in public parking lots. Therefore, such a license plate is recommended first for those who have a garage or a private property large enough to park the vehicle there. If you can't do that, you have to calculate whether you still pay less despite renting a garage or a non-public parking space. Here, a consultation can help clarify all contingencies.
