But what to look out for as a novice driver? Surely it can't be that hard to buy your first own car…can it?? Against planlessness we have exactly the right thing! Enclosed you find 5 helpful and important Tipps, the purchase of the first own car.

Tip 1: Search for and, of course, find a suitable car

Before you start looking, create a cost plan. What are your financial possibilities? Do you have to take out a loan? Only then do your search – car sales platforms on the Internet offer a good overview. But you are welcome to make your rounds of car dealerships and visit them in person on site. Friends, parents or relatives, who are already somewhat better versed in this subject area, can be consulted. As a rule, for used cars, it is best to have a vehicle age of ten years and a mileage of 150.000 kilometers not to be exceeded. Safety systems like anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control should definitely be on board; also airbags for driver and passenger.

Tip 2: Financing?

Very important is of course the financing. What resources can you use to pay for your new car? An average "used" car costs about 5,000 euros. We know our stuff and can certainly offer you the right loan if your own funds are not enough. This usually requires a secured income.

Tip 3: Take out insurance

Playing it safe: Mandatory motor liability insurance pays for damage you cause to other road users and protects you from unwarranted claims for compensation. You can combine this car insurance with full or partial comprehensive insurance. Because: liability-only insurance doesn't cover damage to your own car. Another auto insurance policy is passenger accident insurance. It provides security for you and your passengers by covering personal injuries. But it is best to make an appointment with your advisor. This tells you about all important insurances. Especially about those that fit into your budget and are also extremely necessary.

Tip 4: Apply for registration

Buying your first own car also includes proper registration at the vehicle registration office. For this, you'll need: your ID card, vehicle title and registration, your Electronic Insurance Confirmation number and the account details for the vehicle tax.

Good to know: With a used car, an MOT certificate and current mileage are also required. Everything in it? Then off to the registration office.

Tip 5: Have inspections carried out

Buying a new car is not the end of the story: mandatory inspections are the main and exhaust emission tests, which you can have performed by TuV or Dekra, for example. With a used vehicle you have to do this after 24, and with a new car after 36 months. Then you also get the important TuV sticker, which is attached to the license plate. While your vehicle is still under warranty, you should also be diligent about getting inspections done. Because if a defect occurs, the car manufacturer does not pay and the warranty expires.
